Ocean Systems Day

A working ocean-research campus and a travelling aquarium lab, in one day, on one bus. Students spend the morning at AltaSea and the afternoon with Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s mobile aquarium, which comes to them.

The day

Departs school 9:00 AM, returns 2:00 PM. The bus makes one stop.

This package works for schools up to 15 minutes from San Pedro each way.

Any further and the bus cannot be back by 2:00 PM.

Timings are the venues’ own published windows.

Where the bus goes

Where the bus goes is the one question no venue on this waterfront answers on its own website. Thirty-eight pages across all four venue sites and seven intake forms were read on 20 August 2026, and the only occurrence of the word “bus” in any of them was a line about scholarships. So this section publishes the few arrival facts a venue has actually put in writing, says Not Published everywhere else in those words, and names the desk to ask. Nothing here is permission to park: no venue has stated where a school bus may stand, and an absence of a published prohibition is not the same as being told yes.

AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles

Where a bus goes at AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is Not Published. Nobody there has put a drop-off point or a parking arrangement in writing, and this site will not invent one.

Call the venue before the day. Two questions decide a morning and neither is published anywhere: where the driver sets the group down, and whether the lot is open when you arrive. Where a venue publishes no desk of its own, this page says Not Published rather than printing an address that may reach nobody.

Roadworks across the pilot year

San Pedro is a construction site for the whole of the 2026-27 school year, and roadwork guidance that has gone stale is worse than none — the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s own boarding page still carries a ramp advisory that expired around December 2025. So every advisory below carries the end date its own source states, and where a source publishes none this page says Not Published instead of picking one. All three were read on 20 August 2026; check the source before you plan a route around one.

SR 47 northbound ramps at Harbor Boulevard are closed — The Port of Los Angeles interchange project page, which states “The northbound SR 47 on-ramp and northbound SR 47 off-ramp at Harbor Blvd. will be closed through Oct. 31, 2026” and publishes Detour A word for word. The Port does not state that Detour A is an instruction for buses. The project’s own estimated completion is December 2026, so the advisory set will change before then. The Vincent Thomas Bridge closes completely — Caltrans District 7 states the full closure is “scheduled for November 1, 2026” and the Port of Los Angeles states “late 2026”, for sixteen months; both say the schedule may change. No detour has been published for the full closure — the routing Caltrans has published applies to the earlier night-time lane closures, not to this — so the end date and the detour are both Not Published. Harbor Boulevard is rebuilt from S.P. Slip to 22nd Street — The Port of Los Angeles Harbor Boulevard reconstruction schedule, November 2026 to January 2028. No detour is published for it. Read 20 August 2026.

Holding a date here is not a venue agreeing to it. Each venue runs its own intake and contacts you directly. Below is what each one does next, as far as each venue has said so — and where a venue has not described a step, this page says Not Published rather than guessing at one.

AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles

What they do next: AltaSea runs its field-trip intake in its own scheduling system, Acuity, separately from this site. Someone at AltaSea picks the request up there.
What they will send you: An email from AltaSea, direct to you.
What you have to send back: Whatever AltaSea’s own Acuity intake asks for. Not money — this field trip carries no fee, and AltaSea’s own system is not set up to collect one.

AltaSea described its own intake at the network kickoff on 20 August 2026, and its live scheduling system reports no payment processor connected.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

What they do next: Cabrillo runs its own intake on its own forms — a different one for each programme, five of them live at once.
What they will send you: Not Published
What you have to send back: Cabrillo’s own form for the programme whose date you held. It asks between 20 and 39 questions — far more than this site collects — and nobody here can fill it in or send it for you.
