LA Waterfront STEM Network

A coordinated education ecosystem on the Los Angeles Waterfront

The LA Waterfront STEM Network connects world-class institutions into a single, seamless learning journey — linking science, history, innovation, and workforce pathways.

Where students don’t just learn about the ocean — they experience it.

This site publishes the dates those five organizations have set aside, as Packages a school can hold today. Holding a Package Date is not a venue agreeing to it — each venue is notified and contacts the Requester directly.

A two-venue day costs the same bus as one venue.

$325 per bus

A full 9:00–2:00 day on an LAUSD bus, booked 15+ school days ahead — whether you visit one venue or two.

LAUSD bills the hours a bus is held, not the stops it makes, at $65/hour. Either way, the hours are what you pay for, so the second venue is free.

A day on the waterfront

  1. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

Analyze specimens in the aquarium laboratories and observe marine life behaviour with the tools scientists use.

  2. Battleship IOWA

Work radar, propulsion, navigation and electrical systems through operational engineering simulators aboard the ship.

  3. AltaSea

Pilot remotely operated underwater vehicles at the Blue Economy Innovation Campus.

  4. Tall ships

Sail and navigate a brigantine, and study the marine environment from the STEM laboratories on board.

That is what the waterfront offers, not a Package. The Packages in this catalog are single-day trips that fit inside a school day, at one venue or two.

What students do at each venue

The rest of the network is not on this site

  • Professional Development
  • Experiential Learning
  • Curriculum & Training
  • Career Pathways

The network groups everything it runs into four areas: Professional Development, Experiential Learning, Curriculum & Training and Career Pathways. This site carries one slice of one of them — the K-12 field trips.

Educator programming, the community college pathways and the classroom curriculum run through the five organizations directly. Nothing about them is published here, and a date that is not in this catalog is Not Published rather than unavailable.
